What is a random name generator?
A random name generator picks a first name and a last name at random from curated lists to produce a plausible full name. The results look like real person names, making them suitable for realistic test data, character creation, and anonymisation tasks.
When is a random name generator useful?
Software developers use random names to populate test databases and UI prototypes without using real personal data. Writers use them for character names in fiction. Data engineers use them when they need to anonymise or mock datasets for analysis. Educators use them for example scenarios in teaching materials.
How does this tool work?
The tool maintains separate lists of 30 male and 30 female first names, plus a shared list of 36 last names. When you click Generate, it picks a random entry from the appropriate first-name list and pairs it with a random last name. The "Generate 5" button produces five names at once, which is handy when you need multiple options.
Privacy note
All names are generated locally in your browser. No names are sent to any server, and no usage data is collected. The names are entirely fictional and any resemblance to real persons is coincidental.
